three good questions

Post by filiasan »

I'm making this short and simple. Here they go:
1) What religion do you follow?
2) What kind of impression do most Christians give you? Be honest!
3) What kind of person do you most admire?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
as for me:
1)I think I tend toward Buddhism, but I'm not quite certain (of course, you can never be).
2)The majority tend to be either ignorant, innocent, or worse...have their own hidden agenda (those types come on too strong).
2)The type that's open-minded, yet does not tolerate social injustices, at least those severe ones that threaten to shape one's life and they way one thinks.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) Science - the belief that everything that exists can be explained by natural phenomenon that human beings are intelligent enough to comprehend, even if we do not currently understand at this moment in time.

2) When I was younger, Christians were very sweet and kind to me, they were good people who I was great friends with - practically family. As I grew older, I found a more defensive and bitter attitude among them, in general.

3) I most admire intelligence and discipline in a person, also balance. A witty sense of humor never turns me off either.

Christianity

The Christians I hang around are sincere in their faith. But, Christians as a whole I find lacking much depth.
3) What kind of person do you most admire?
People who pursue excellence and are humble.

None.

Generally, I'll have an impression of someone long before I'm aware of their religious beliefs. Seldom do their personal beliefs alter that impression, unless...

The qualities that I admire in people include --but are not necessarily limited to-- good grammar, intelligence, common sense, creativity, competent musicianship, strong work ethic, self discipline, numeracy, honesty.

1) What religion do you follow?
None. I wouldn't classify science as a religion.
2) What kind of impression do most Christians give you? Be honest!
One of my best friends is a Christian Scientist, and actually takes it all fairly seriously. We still get on well because of the attitude she takes toward it; she's not a fundamentalist, she doesn't let her natural compassion and sense of kindness be overridden by strict and unerring adherence to doctrine, and basically she's very sensible and intelligent. For a Christian ;)
3) What kind of person do you most admire?
Intelligence is the first quality that springs to mind, particular when one can avoid it being negatively affected by emotionalism. Humour is good, originality is nice, independence helps.

3) What kind of person do you most admire?
1. Christianity...I do not associate myself with any particular denomination aside from Protestant because that is the Bible that I use.
2. Most Christians....honestly, they make me angry. The majority that I encounter (concurrent with my age group) do not understand very much of the religion they profess and seem rather elitist. I've observed this in older age groups as well.
3. I admire a person who is honest and humble, hardworking but not so much that it prevents him or her from having fun. One who possesses an excellent sense of humor usually makes everyone happy.

(1) I like the zeitgeist of Taoism and Zen, but it's sometimes way too serious; I like the morality of Buddhism but I don't want to give up meat. :D

(2) When it comes to Christians (and mostly re: science): well-intentioned, but misguided and oblivious to that fact. This results in them saying things that annoy me or piss me off, or convince me they don't know what they're talking about.

As people, it depends.

(3) People who follow their dreams and actually succeed at it.

Most? I really can't say I can generalize. Since participating in the forums here, I have met some genuinely intelligent, compassionate and tolerant people of faith, most not fitting any particular mold. I've also met some close-minded people, but they have been in the minority. Young Christians who openly embrace their faith tend to be far less open-minded than older Christians, but there are exceptions. I think I will follow the lead of fried beef sandwich and say that they mean well, but are sometimes misguided in my estimation of things.
3) What kind of person do you most admire?
Me and the people who most closely resemble me. The people I truly admire are limited to literary heroes.

1) None although I consider myself a humanist.
2) Superiority complex and intolerant.
3) People who care about the earth and who care other humans' feelings and needs.

1) Judaism
2) If we are talking extreme hardcore christians they are either arrogant or like a few I know actually make you want to look into there religion cause they are such nice, fair, and kind-hearted people.
3) People who are nice to anyone and do not throw there statis of higher authority on people. There is a quote that says "You can tell what kind of a man a person is not by how he treats his equals but his inferiours"
Just a all around good person.

(There is probably a lot of mis-spelled words in here but I can't type worth crap and my spell check button is not working cause I'm glitched I guess)
