Is it possible for their to be life after death (of the human body) without there being god or another divine being?
______
For the sake of semantics,
death= total end of brain function, dead as a door nail, not near death or heart stopping.
Life after death= any form of existance of CONSCIOUSNESS (or "soul") after death whether it be heaven/ hell, reincarnation or floating around as a ghost.

Conciousness?
Post #11Humans are often so drastically different I find it hard to believe we're all part of one big soul. However, the concept of ghosts and life after death is an interesting concept without a God or Gods which generally are a large part of life after death in mythology/religions. It makes more sense to me that being dead would be like being unborn, or dreamless sleeping.

Post #12I'm not so sure. What of people with Dissociative identity disorder? they are drastically different from themself. it isn't unreasonably for someone to think or behave drastically different in different environments - which everyone's life is.NeedlesOrKnives wrote:Humans are often so drastically different I find it hard to believe we're all part of one big soul.
We do not hate others because of the flaws in their souls, we hate them because of the flaws in our own.

I guess it might be nice if we are remembered.

Re: The same?
Post #15yeah, such people die just like everyone else.NeedlesOrKnives wrote:Of course, there are exceptions to the average human, such as psychopaths and people with Dissociative disorder, but in the end it doesn't really matter. All the "abnormal" people die just like everyone else.
Whats your point? if drastically different personalities can occur within the same person, why can't they occur within different incarnations of a collective soul?
And even beyond this, each person changes over their lifetime - some change dramatically, yet they are still the same person - presumably the same soul. This shows than one soul can have more than one personality depending upon experiences.
We do not hate others because of the flaws in their souls, we hate them because of the flaws in our own.

I still wonder if there is anything after death and realize I mean anything for me personally. O course there is something after I die as life goes on and I see it go on after others die. I miss others I loved and I can imagine each one of us was lovable. I can see the desire to see those I miss again.
I would like to see the end of the universe and the beginning.
Maybe even see the beginning of new ones.
So maybe I hope for some other life where all is understood and I can continue enjoying. But I have no reason to think there is and I don'[t see anyone else that does either for none of us have the experience of the other and we wouldn't worry about what is after. I like to think of us as waking up and remembering being everyone but still being me. Maybe that is what it is like for God?
So if I trust God I guess I have to trust God knows what God is doing and if God doesn't have a plan God will come up with one and I will be included.
Isn't that what a be livers does? The trust that God will remember them. So believe God isn't going to remember some and it is all dependent upon something they do.
At least that is how they act and the unbeliever just doesn't seem to be doing it.
It look rather arbitrary as it can mean and be what ever the believer happens to believe or mean.
I don't think it takes God to be sorry for things we have done because of results and a little guilt goes a long way when it comes to not doing some things again.
I am betting any God would at least understand why people do the things they do with out just saying the are just unbelievers.
So I will plug along with life trusting what ever God there is will remember and hope that I can make the world a little better for the next one through on the way to ends unknown and love those around me as best I can. And maybe if I can help just because I was helped by so many including the countless people that gave their lives for a better world.
I have reaped the rewards or harvest of many planted seeds and weeding and its only fair to plant some seed for the next weary traveler.

God/Gods are the ones who "Made" Heaven, usually. And it makes no sense to me that there should be anything after death. But who knows? I guess I'll see, eventually.

There is only life as we see. You can not have both life and death and try to understand both because there are two extreme different things. Life is what we see, what we experience and what we should try to understand, once you undesrtand life everything else is included. Death is not what we think..
