Three Curtains
Post #1You are a contestant on a game show. There are three curtains. Behind one of the curtains is a new car. You are asked to choose one of the curtains. Lets say that you choose curtain #1. The host of the show - who knows where the car is so as not to end the game prematurely - opens curtain #3 and there is no car behind it. The host now gives you a choice. You can stay with curtain #1 or you can change your choice to curtain #2. The question now is: would it be to your advantage to stay with curtain #1, or would it be to your advantage to change to curtain #2 or would there be no advantage either way?

Another double post, but how were you able to get my name on it?keithprosser3 wrote: Ah, the old Monty Hall puzzle.
Interesting first time you come across it, but it's been done to death over the years. I admit my intuition was wrong.

keithprosser3,
re: "Ah, the old Monty Hall puzzle."
Actually, this is completely different from the Monty Hall puzzle. The Monty Hall puzzle uses doors whereas this one uses curtains. Also, the Monty Hall puzzle has goats or some other undesirable "prize" behind two of the doors whereas this on has nothing behind two of the curtains.

Read all about it there...
Remembering loosely: social set-up, 1.
Some logics, making the two last 50 % each. 2.
Social set-up, voice of the show-manager, giving the curtain away. 3.
Well, well, this "curtains" thing has a story to it, regarding the smartest person in the World, a woman with the name, Van Savant, living in New York, the city!
