Evolutionary Astrology

Like this post
Evolutionary astrology is a school of astrological study and practice positing that we have leftover business from past lives (symbolized by the South Node of the Moon) that needs to be taken care of before we can successfully work on our individual purpose and lessons to learn in this lifetime (symbolized by the North Node of the Moon). Evolutionary astrology posits that the condition of the planet Pluto in a person's horoscope correlates with the soul purpose underlying the "to-do list" symbolized by the Nodes of the Moon in an individual's horoscope.

Does evolutionary astrology work? How does one go about inquiring into such a question?

the four evolutionary states of existence

Like this post
One of the fundamental ideas of evolutionary astrology is the four evolutionary states of consciousness. An individual, through many lifetimes, progresses through these states as part of the soul's journey of individuation/separation and then return to the Source of creation. An individual's current state cannot be found by looking in the horoscope. Rather, a proper interpretation of an individual's horoscope depends on a correct assessment of the evolutionary state. See http://schoolofevolutionaryastrology.com/essence-of-ea/the-four-evolutionary-states

The four states are:

1. Dimly evolved, with a limited self-awareness, and a basic desire to be "normal" (like other people).

2. Consensus -- the majority (estimated around 70%) of people are in this state, where individual' moral values, customs, taboos, and sense of social propriety conform to the larger society. ("Everybody" goes to church on Sunday, so of course I do, too.)

3. Individuated -- these people, in order to explore and decide for themselves what is right and wrong, what works and doesn't, have the soul urge to leave consensus values behind. (Just because "everybody" goes to church on Sunday is no reason for me to do it, and I'm not going to accept the church doctrine just because the elders say so.)

4. Spiritual -- a small minority, about one percent. These people are on a journey of return to the Source of existence. Their personal consciousness is permeated by universal and/or spiritual thoughts and experiences. They may see the value of organized religion for those in the consensus stage, and -- depending on their individual lessons and purpose in their present incarnation -- they may participate as members of a church congregation, as a way of sharing spiritual connection with receptive people.

Show. Me. Evidence.

Provide testable evidence of ''past lives''. If you can't, then it's an unfalsifiable position that's just as warranted as green four-dimensional space monkeys.

What do YOU mean by "evidence"?

Um, you seem to have forgotten that this is the "Non-Christian Religions and Philosophies" sub-forum. Perhaps you could take your off-topic "scientific knowledge" pose over to the Science and Religion sub-forum, where it belongs, at least as cannon fodder. While you're over there, you could check a recently-mentioned example of evidence for reincarnation, at post #36 on the "Debate with a Scientist" thread, at https://debatingchristianity.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35419&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=30

You might also be inclined to check post #84, which gives an overview of the entire thread up to that point. You can click here and scroll down: https://debatingchristianity.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35419&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=80

You phrase that as if you were the grumpy and exasperated Mr. Almighty Commander (MAC). Your reference to "testable evidence," in this situation, raises the possibility that you worship at the altar of the Cult of Empiricism. Is "testable evidence" really the only evidence that you'll consider? Do you have a developed competence discussing and evaluating evidence and proof? Perhaps you do. If not, perhaps you have picked up a pseudo-scientific empiricist talking point as a debating tactic that has worked well enough in the past against people who are easily "blinded by science."

There has never been any credible or compelling evidence that it does.

Apparently no one knows, including those who would like for it to be true.

Therefore, since there is no credible or compelling evidence to support the idea, and no one knows how to even go about inquiring into the question in a meaningful way, it doesn't appear to be a topic worthy of further investigation.

Until you can answer your own question you're pretty much at an impasse.

How does that work if the global population is climbing?

One would think that as souls finish off what they are doing, the number of people born would DECREASE simply because there are not enough souls to go around.

And yet, since the global population is growing, I have to ask, where are all these extra souls coming from?

I'm going to present the following as nothing more than speculation, ideas that seem plausible to me but I'm not going to dig in and argue for them.

1. Many souls "get stuck" and end up repeating over-and-over, unable to break free from the wheel of reincarnation. Perhaps the number of souls that get stuck is directly related to the surrounding culture, with widespread depravity corresponding to an increase in the necessity for remedial karmic homework.

2. Ever since the rise of reductionist materialism and the academic cult of empiricism (so-called "science") starting in the 18th century (blotting out awareness of the spiritual realm of existence, not to mention any notion of meaning or purpose in human existence), it is easy to imagine that the number of people "getting stuck" has increased dramatically.

3. The first or "dimly evolved" evolutionary state, present in rare cases in today's population (one of the pre-suppositions of evolutionary astrology), implies evolution from some other state, perhaps animals.

4. Another possibility is the creation of new souls. Of course that's not compatible with Christian doctrine ("souls are eternal"), but here we are on the "non-Christian religions and philosophies" sub-forum.

5. There is no reason to presume that people invariably reincarnate quickly from one life to the next. But perhaps the pace has recently picked up, going together with recent centuries' dramatic increase in the number of the living.

6. Perhaps reincarnation as humans on Planet Earth has become newly available to aliens on a far-away planet.

7. Perhaps incarnation as humans has become newly available to angels or other spiritual beings.

7. A final speculation: It seems clear that the human race is collectively running toward a terrible global cataclysm. Perhaps reincarnation at this general time is a sort of karmically-ordained participation in the impending "judgment day" event. Once again, just speculating here...
