God formed Man out of the earth. and breathed into him the breath of life. and Man became a living being. Genesis 2:7
The dust returns to the earth as it was. and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7
You do not die when the body dies the spirit is everlasting infinite standing on the ground of eternity. Bhagavad-Gita
All things are made of spirit and body. Spirit is the infinite and eternal part ( as per Genesis) Yang to the bodies Yin. Spirit is contagious it passes from one to another. it is greater than and not completely contained by the body. It resonates out from a person to his environment like neighboring tuning forks resonate at the same frequency. That's why Jesus said love your neighbor , because it will do you good. Spirit is recognized by all faiths a common thread running through them . Spirit is in you and affecting you everywhere you go. We already live in the spiritual world.
Question for discussion :
First of all , do you believe or feel you have a spirit? (if not please don't answer 3 and 4)
Are you a body with a spirit or a spirit with a body?
Do we generate our spirit or is spirit something eternal given to us?

we sense spirit with our mind. Our mind is a sense organ. It senses the spiritual like the eye senses the light. The brain responds to the body. The mind responds to the spirit.

Delusion
A delusion is a belief that is held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary. As a pathology, it is distinct from a belief based on false or incomplete information, confabulation, dogma, illusion, or other effects of perception.

Does it even occur to you that the things you are claiming have no connection to anything that can physically be demonstrated to be valid or true? You are in fact simply making it up. That you choose to believe it is your business. Making these claims as if they are obvious facts however is pointless.

Post #34Calling names might make your self feel better but it does nothing for a discussion between adults.
Acknowledging a spirit in people is far from being a delusion.
In fact "denial denial denial" is the defense mechanism for those who can not face the scary stuff.

The "mind" is not separable from the brain because it is a direct result of the physical functioning of the brain (just like consciousness, thought, etc.). Without a functioning brain there is no mind, and mind is not something separate from brain function. It is a manifestation of brain function, just like sight is the manifestation of several systems working together (pupil, lens, retina, optic nerve) to provide inputs to the visual cortex (a section of the brain). The functioning brain then processes this information and we "see" images (or we can imagine images and "see' them as well because the brain can recall them from memory).
How would you define "mind"? What is it if not the brain assembling information from various sensory inputs and memory to produce awareness of our surroundings, thought, etc.? If someone dies their "mind" vanishes completely because the brain ceases to function, and it is the brain that creates this state of conscious awareness via its normal operation. What alternative would you offer for how "mind" is created?
you talking about the mind or the brain?

Not a direct response to a post of mine, but why would you think that someone who sees "mind" (or consciousness) as simply a manifestation of brain activity would find an alternative view "scary"? To me the ideas that "life" in a body is some kind of spirit, or that "mind" is separate from brain function, or that when an organism dies some kind of spirit leaves it, are all without any basis in observation or measurement. So I don't believe that "spirit" exists simply because there is no need for it in any explanation of how brains work, and there is virtually no evidence that can support its existence.

That is too ambiguous to make sense of. Before I was born I existed in various states from a fertilized egg that subsequently split into two eggs (I have an identical twin brother), to all of the usual stages (embryo, fetus, ...) a new human goes through before exiting the mother in the usual way to be "born." So the question is how you define "who you were" for an unborn human between egg fertilization and the birth event, since my only existence during this period was inside the womb.
Or does "before you were born" mean something besides my existence inside the womb?
So spirit is something you sense? Maybe a career in ghost busting is in order. There are plenty of people who happily pay for that sort of thing.
spirit is simply who you were before you were born.

I didn't call anyone any names. I simply pointed out that making claims which do not conform to any actual physical evidence and which were simply pulled straight out of one's imagination is a type of delusion. My late aunt use to have a running conversation going with Jesus constantly. Usually in tongues. He was right there in the room with her. No one else could see or hear him of course. Because my late aunt was delusional. She was made delusional by a lifetime of delusional religious beliefs. Starting with believing in things that did not conform to anything physically valid.
E shandala hookala meekiya! Which apparently means "All glory to God," in tongues.
