How can Abraham claim he is a foreigner from a clan that has lineage in his blood?
In Genesis 23:3-6, Abraham approaches the Hittites to purchase land to bury his wife, Sarah. Abraham claims that he is a foreigner to the Hittites when we starts to speak with them.
However, the Hittites tell Abraham not to say such a thing.
Further supported is the fact that in Genesis 10:15, we see that Noah's great grandson is named Hittite.
Thus how can Abraham claim he is a foreigner to Hittites, when they are in fact family?
Abraham a foreigner to his distant cousins?

According to the bible, all humans are related if one goes back far enough. We are decendents of one of Noahs three sonsShem, Ham or Japheth. Abraham was a descendant of Noahs son Shem but the Hitties descended from Noahs son Ham. When Abraham said he was a foreigner, he simply meant he was not a native of the region, whch was true as he was born and raised thousands of miles away in Mesopotania.

This is a problem that affects a number of the pre-Exodus stories. Joseph, for example, is sold to the "Ishmaelites" by his brothers, but Ishmael himself was the brother of Joseph's grandfather, Isaac.tonjun wrote: So why did God later have Abraham's descendant Moses, Joshua, and Caleb, come back to Canaan to kill off their own family members?
Canaan was also a grandson of Noah.

That is true @Difflugia!
I didn't even realize that until now!
It's interesting to see so many play on words being used in the Bible that still relate to the modern world today in some sense.

And since Egyptians are descendants of Ishmael (and Noah's grandson; Noah >> Ham >> Egypt - Genesis 10:6 ), we then are all technically family that God has ordained from the past, to kill each other for his will.
Something either doesn't add up, or it all makes sense now.

We are all distant family members, that doesnt mean God cannot attribute land to those who He choses. God promised the land of Canaan to Abrahams descendents pure and simple. Being family close or distant doesn't give a person the right to keep what, in the eyes of God, is not theirs.
Would you let your cousin sleep with hour wife just because he's related to you?

So by that logic, what if Canaan had a wife and God allowed Moses, Caleb, and Joshua (Abraham's descendants) to swoop in and sleep with her?JehovahsWitness wrote:We are all distant family members, that doesnt mean God cannot attribute land to those who He choses. Is this still justified in your eyes?

God never mandates what is by his own standards wrong nor does he violate his own faultless morals. Jehovah from the beginning stipulated that the marriage bond was permanent and between one man and one woman, so he would never command otherwise. Your question is thus asking if darkness was light would I still call it darkness.
The fact of the matter is the God of the bible only commands what is good, proper and morally upright; if it appears otherwise to anyone it is for them, not God, to find where their thinking is faulty.

In Bible, the reason for God ordering killing is always that people are evil and unrighteous. Unfortunately, that one is of same family doesn’t mean he could also become evil and do evil things. Maybe the saying “family is the worst comes from here.tonjun wrote: So why did God later have Abraham's descendant Moses, Joshua, and Caleb, come back to Canaan to kill off their own family members?
