Hi all,
I'm new here and have just read up on the policies and finished my signature, etc. I hope I've done everything correctly so far.
I would like to believe in an almighty power but the problem is that in my research I've found so many gods out there. Coming from a family that has been explicitly atheist for generations, I'm starting from scratch and am looking at all religions.
I am sincerely curious to know how would I know, for instance, that your god is the one, true God?
Thank you.
Help: How do I know that your God is the one, true God?

Really??? That seems to be a large claim. Can you show it to be true.Christianity has its roots in Judaism. Judaism is 6000 years old according to Hebrew geneology. How old are these religions and how do you know?
Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu are all part of the same Godhead, and their worship was hundreds of years before Christianity (or even Judaism).
The oldest known piece of writing with a pendent with part of a prayer (still in use today) that dates to the 7th century bce.
While I am not sure the methods of dating of the Vedas, they are estimated to be compiled from oral tradition between 1000 and 1500 bce.

Many scientists have been though.I guess the same way they know the universe is expanding, ... or wait, is it receding? If it's receding than T=0 more than 13 billion years ago must have been very, very big, and not so small that it fit into 'nothing'. Anyways, I guess they use background radiation to determine who came first; Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu, or the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob? I mean who can argue with such technology as background radiation to reveal the past? We only have the Bible.

Evidently Jude is quoting from a text.

Jos 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
2Sa 1:18 (Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the use of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jasher.)
Jude1:14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints,
15 ¶ To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
There are some discrepancies as to the date of Jasher, but Enoch lived around 3500 b.c. If he wrote anything, and apparently he did, because there is a reference quote from him in Jude, then his writing would have to be around 5500 years. You may dispute the claim, but what can you counter claim with?

Post #589Which makes my point. You have nothing dating to the dates you gave. The book of Jasher is not referenced in the bible. The book of the just or yasher is however. Jasher comes from hayashar, or the upright and just.Zetesis Apistia wrote: There are two works that are referred to in scripture that must have been lost to time. We still have no text dating to thisntime frame. We have assumption that the referenced book is from this time, but we have no actual text. There are some discrepancies as to the date of Jasher, but Enoch lived around 3500 b.c. Post #590The Grand Canyon has marine fossils towards the top of the Grand Canyon, almost a mile above sea level.
