The kingdom of God.

Post by Checkpoint »

Some seem to think it is entirely future, while others give the impression they are always thinking of it as present, and to not be looking at the future in kingdom terms at all.

Jesus had much to say about the kingdom, including this:
Luke 16:

6 The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is being zealously urged into it.
So, where do you stand as to whether it is present, future, or has both a present and a future aspect?

On what basis?

According to which scriptures?

You didn't post a single word to explain the scriptures you sited. Why did you quote them, what do those scriptures mean and how do they relate specifically to the kingdom?
... he sat where he sat, in the highest place with the Majesty. Far above all else and every name, so that they are subject to him, the reigning and coming king.

When did he "sit"? Was Jesus not in the highest place with the Majesty before this moment? Where was he sitting before?

You speak about the "the reigning and coming king" how is he reigning and coming at the same time ?

What is he reigning over that he didn't reign over from the beginning of time?

And what about 1 Chron 29:11?

JW
He sat when his Father invited him to do so.

Was he sitting before then?

The coming king is the one who will come. He is not now coming.

He now reigns over his followers, the true believers, and has done since the Acts 2 Pentecost.

You tell me, what about 1 Chron 29:11?

What do you understand by "invited him"?

And when was that ? Before or after his earthly ministry?
Checkpoint wrote:Was he sitting before then?

You tell me, you're the one that brought it up. Was Jesus standing from the beginning of time and only sat down when invited? if so again when was this and how is it connected to the kingdom?

I notice you have not answered my question "Was Jesus not in the highest place with the Majesty before this moment? "

So what was he reigning over before 33CE? If nothing was he not a king before 33 CE?

Why should I? You didn't offer any explainations when you asked about verses....
Checkpoint wrote:What have you to say about these verses, then?

So why should I?

Like you I am asking: What have you to say about this verse, then 1 Chron 29:11?

I notice you haven't answered the following
JehovahsWitness wrote:
For what purpose was Jesus anointed and when?

- Was Jesus anointed when he was born?
- If so how does that differentiate from what happened at his baptism?

Checkpoint wrote:The kingdom had come near in the sense that its king had come near, as that verse illustrates.
"Near" meaning...?

So are you sayjng Jesus was king before his sacrifice? Was he born king, if so was he born anointed (see above)

How exactly does all that relate to the kingdom and what about Genesis 3:15 and Colossians 1:13
Was the kingdom possible without the ransom, why? why not? Did the kingdom exist before the ransom?

Who are "they" (Abel? Abraham? David..) and when did "they" enter the kingdom?

"enter "meaning ....?

You refer to "eternal kingdom life" what do you mean and do you have scriptural support for This?

You're doing well but I see some inconsistencies and would appreciate your adding some detail before I address them.

So many questions, JW.

Mostly about before and after, and sitting or not...

I am tired right now, so in this post I will just tell you what I think, particularly about...the highest place, and being seated at the right hand...

Jesus is in the highest place because of his perfect obedience to the Father in becoming mankind's ransom and thereby its hope and assurance by being raised to life from death.

That highest place was the one the Father had reserved for him, seated at His right hand, far above all.

1 Peter 3:22

Now that he has gone into heaven, he is at God's right hand with
angels, authorities, and powers subject to him.

God's invitation to sit there was after the ascension; Psalm 110.

The Chronicles passage refers to YHVH prior to any Messianic kingdom.

No more now; another day tomorrow!

I quoted them without comment, in the hope any reader will get their message.
The message this reader gets from the exchanges, where random quotes are like paper arrows thrown in a classroom, is one of sadness. So much energy has been put into digging around in vocabulary never meant to be pulled apart. Universities send people away equipped to face individual challenges in our modern world; they may triumphantly find truth in some partial differential equation, or in translating a difficult passage from long dead lips; or they might wander with Hume or Kant into enquiring what constitutes morality; or visit the fascinating build-up of ships before WW1 or perhaps attempt to understand Tolstoy's opening remarks in Anna Karenina about happy families. And here we are detained over the metaphor kingdom, that belongs to a time where kings were indeed kings. And there is talk of death being the final enemy, when it is merely the natural conclusion of chemical change.

Simon who spent decades sitting on the top of a pedestal made as much sense. Or we might consider the man in the parable who buried his talent.

Well, now that I am here, I have taken a quick review of questions asked and answers given. It has left me a little confused.

What have I not answered in some way?

As you are still expecting some answers, I respectfully ask you to state or reword those questions, and then I will try to answer them next time.

I know that may be a bit of a pain, please be patient.
