I recall being taught, as a christian, I was part of god's army. I was told to witness and try to bring people 'into the fold'. Seems becoming a christian, oft times, drafts one into a wholly war!
This may not apply to all faith as I haven't been a member of all faiths.
As a christian, are you a part of god's army as described above?
If so, did you know this before becoming a christian, or was it thrusts upon you once you became a member of the clique?
If you are a marching soldier in god's army, what have you done recently to win souls and prove your worth to the almighty?

Wait... So when asked if the act of serving in the army (a thing one does) helps get you into heaven, you say the free gift is related to what you do. That's kinda' the same thing.
If not, clarify exactly how it's not as I might be misunderstanding your response.
You didnt ask if it HELPS you asked if it GETS "Is it works that gets a JW into heaven?"... Its a subtile but important difference.
You asked if works get's a person to heaven. I took that to mean: If you work hard enough for God will that result in getting to heaven. ie can you "earn" heaven? ( you put in the hours you get heaven; you don't put in the hours, you don't get to heaven). The answer to that is no I dont believe so. You could work for God for a billion years, it won't earn you heaven (or everlasting life). The work of itself isnt IMO what gets you everlasting life.
That said, we mostly give gifts to those we love; I believe God will reward those that LOVE him and have FAITH in him. These people are happy to show their devotion any way they can; they obey God and do what he asks of them. He in turn deems them worthy of the free gifts of everlasting life. It's not payement for services rendered, its a gift for being obedient children.

Re: God's army
Post #12It's only to be expected that people who believe something is true and moreover important, will feel to urge to persuade others and tell themselves that it's what the other person needs, too. That's the genuine ones; others are in it just for themselves. But mostly they are dedicated in the rank and file.
I'm pretty clear on the 'ticket to heaven' angle. It's a Faith that will get them into heaven, if anything does (Christians have told me that nothing is guaranteed), and all the good works are just extra God -pleasers. On the other hand, Doing Evil can (as Paul makes clear in the One Corinthian, can lose Grace, even if they still believe, but repentance can get over that. The bottom line is that sin itself is no bar to heaven. After all, in Christian doctrine we are all sinful and none are deserving of heaven. But it is the correct Faith that will do it and all the rest is just small print.
