God's army

Post by nobspeople »

I recall being taught, as a christian, I was part of god's army. I was told to witness and try to bring people 'into the fold'. Seems becoming a christian, oft times, drafts one into a wholly war!
This may not apply to all faith as I haven't been a member of all faiths.

As a christian, are you a part of god's army as described above?
If so, did you know this before becoming a christian, or was it thrusts upon you once you became a member of the clique?
If you are a marching soldier in god's army, what have you done recently to win souls and prove your worth to the almighty?
Have a great, potentially godless, day!

I believe working for God involves preaching and teaching about the kingdom. I spend a part of each week doing this (Post COVID by telephone and letter writing)

Is it works that gets a JW into heaven? While I know a couple JWs personally (well, knew TBH) so I don't know their standards of admittance (this may be a call to you to serve in said army).

Speaking of army: Would you physically kill if commanded to do so by god?

No. We believe salvation (whether to everlasting life in heaven or on earth) is a free gift from God.

Yes. That said I believe God never goes back on his word and Christans have not been called to fight physical warfare.

Thanks for that. So your membership in this army has nothing to do with you getting your eternal reward?
Yes (you would kill if commanded to by god). That said I believe God never goes back on his word and Christans have not been called to fight physical warfare.
That sounds like Islam: killing if one believes they're commanded to do so by god. But they're both very similar so that shouldn't come as much of a surprise I suspect.
But what promise (word) are you referring to here?

No I wouldn't go that far either. You asked ...

The answer to that question is no. Still we believe the "free gifts" God gives is related to what we do, in that our actions show God how we feel about Him.

Yes, or most US veterans you probably respect for fighting for what they believe in at the command of their leader. Six of one; half a dozen of the other.

I said "word" as in what he tells us to do in the bible. Jesus was clear, his disciple are commanded to LOVE their enemies. So, there is in my'opinion no chance God will at some point turn around and tell us to kill them.

So you're comparing people who are following orders by an imperfect being to those following orders from a perfect, all loving being? Is that what you're saying here?
Let's not forget that the hands of early christians aren't free of blood, either. And you, yourself, aren't potentially free of blood.

And maybe I missed it, but where is the promise you spoke about earlier about not having to fight, or something to that regard?

Wait... So when asked if the act of serving in the army (a thing one does)helps get you into heaven, you say the free gift is related to what you do.
That's kinda' the same thing.
If not, clarify exactly how it's not as I might be misunderstanding your response.

Yes to being part of Gods army, but no to the way that it was described above.

Even before I became a Christian I heard something important about how "our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

We are at war, but it is not a war against people. We are, so to speak, behind enemy lines, but the enemy is not flesh and blood.

The enemy is the power of the Devil.* To put a name to some forms of that power, it is hatred, cruelty, vanity, lust, racism, suffering, hunger, violence and the like.

*If the Devil is literal or symbolic changes little in this case.
Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.
