God kills 70000 Israelites!!!

Post by alexxcJRO »

According to the perfect inerrant word of God(Bible) the omnipotent, omniscient, omnibenevolent Yahweh kills 70,000 Israelites including countless of innocent(of any wrong-doing, sin) small children, infants for the sin of one man(David) after he or Satan incites him to sin:

2 Samuel 24

David Enrolls the Fighting Men
24 Again the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying, Go and take a census of Israel and Judah.
2 So the king said to Joab and the army commanders[a] with him, Go throughout the tribes of Israel from Dan to Beersheba and enroll the fighting men, so that I may know how many there are.
3 But Joab replied to the king, May the LORD your God multiply the troops a hundred times over, and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king want to do such a thing?
4 The kings word, however, overruled Joab and the army commanders; so they left the presence of the king to enroll the fighting men of Israel.
5 After crossing the Jordan, they camped near Aroer, south of the town in the gorge, and then went through Gad and on to Jazer. 6 They went to Gilead and the region of Tahtim Hodshi, and on to Dan Jaan and around toward Sidon. 7 Then they went toward the fortress of Tyre and all the towns of the Hivites and Canaanites. Finally, they went on to Beershebain the Negev of Judah.
8 After they had gone through the entire land, they came back to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.
9 Joab reported the number of the fighting men to the king: In Israel there were eight hundred thousand able-bodied men who could handle a sword, and in Judah five hundred thousand.
10 David was conscience-stricken after he had counted the fighting men, and he said to the LORD, I have sinned greatly in what I have done. Now, LORD, I beg you, take away the guilt of your servant. I have done a very foolish thing.
11 Before David got up the next morning, the word of the LORD had come to Gad the prophet, Davids seer: 12 Go and tell David, This is what the LORD says: I am giving you three options. Choose one of them for me to carry out against you.
13 So Gad went to David and said to him, Shall there come on you three years of famine in your land? Or three months of fleeing from your enemies while they pursue you? Or three days of plague in your land? Now then, think it over and decide how I should answer the one who sent me.
14 David said to Gad, I am in deep distress. Let us fall into the hands of the LORD, for his mercy is great; but do not let me fall into human hands.
15 So the LORD sent a plague on Israel from that morning until the end of the time designated, and seventy thousand of the people from Dan to Beersheba died. 16 When the angel stretched out his hand to destroy Jerusalem, the LORD relented concerning the disaster and said to the angel who was afflicting the people, Enough! Withdraw your hand. The angel of the LORD was then at the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.
17 When David saw the angel who was striking down the people, he said to the LORD, I have sinned; I, the shepherd,[c] have done wrong. These are but sheep. What have they done? Let your hand fall on me and my family.

Observation: The account in 1 Chronicles is different then the account in 2 Samuel. (So much for the perfect, inerrant word of God)

Someone would wonder what abominable sin David committed that angered God so much to make him act in such horrendous way: killing tens of thousands of men, woman and children.

Hold on your straps people, here it comes: He did a census!!!

Imagine that. The poor guy did a census and Yahweh in his perfect wisdom, justice, benevolence decided that the punishment suited for this was not to punish in some way the person guilty of the wrong-doing, sin but instead kill 70 000 people innocent of this wrong-doing, sin; kill thousands of small children, infants who are innocent of any wrong-doing, sin.

David even asks a very wise question to God. Why punish others when he was the one guilty:

I have sinned; I, the shepherd,[c] have done wrong. These are but sheep. What have they done?

Off course the perfect God of the Bible does not answer the question. How would he?!!!

Q: How can anyone be so oblivious to such a huge discrepancy, contradiction between the supposed attributes of God (omnipotence, omniscience, omnibenevolence, perfect wisdom, justice, mercy) and the actions of this being portrait in the Bible? :-s

Q: How can anyone praise, worship a being that inflicts so easily, so much suffering and death to thousands of innocent children? How can one call this being benevolent or wise or loving? :-s

Q: How can anyone in their right mind, with their rational faculties intact defend such actions and not smell the foul stench of nonsense rotting their brain? :-s

Children are dependent on their parents; the wicked should have taken better care of their own. Ultimately God doesn't kill the children of the wicked, their parents do; Aafter all, if a parent throws his kid out of the window of a high rised building you don't blame gravity!

In any case children are not usually judged as wicked; so innocent children are simply awaiting a resurrection when God will kindly reverse their parents "murdering" them by their (the parents) bad decisions. This should be a lesson to everyone, if there is a lot of water destined to flood your area but there's a massive boat and a man freely inviting people to get on it... the good choice is to GET ON THE BOAT with your kids!

A great question. One caution, one should stick to the data one lists: I, at any rate, did not see in the OP a reference to "young children". Perhaps I was too hasty; quite possible. But if not, then the OP is spoiled by a rhetorical effect: i.e., making the argument greater than then evidence.

Q: Seriously?!!! :))

Let's make an analogy:

A man(moral agent) breaks the law.
You are the judge in town. The man is brought to you.
You decide to punish the man for his transgression.
You then go and kill the man and his entire family(including his infants, his small children, his mentally impaired brother(was born this way and he is in his care), his pets).

Now what are you saying is that is not you who killed the family but the man who broke the law which of course it's illogical nonsense.
Of course you were the one who killed his entire family.

JehovahsWitness wrote: In any case children are not usually judged as wicked; so innocent children are simply awaiting a resurrection when God will kindly reverse their parents "murdering" them by their (the parents) bad decisions. Yet God inflicted countless suffering, pain to countless non-moral-agents(infants, small children, mentally impaired people, animals) and punished them together with the moral agents.

God burned alive both the moral agents and the non-moral agents(infants, small children, mentally impaired people, animals) in the Sodom and Gomorrah's story.

God drowned both the moral agents and the non-moral agents(infants, small children, mentally impaired people, animals) in the Noah's story.

Q: Why would an omnipotent, omniscient, omnibenevolent-perfectly good God inflict countless suffering, pain to countless non-moral-agents(infants, small children, mentally impaired people, animals) when he can avoid it and has the will to do so? :-s

I don't understand your point please clarify. ;)

Today I watched a documentary of South Pacific islands where US did its nuclear testing. Some of them will uninhabitable for 24.000 years. The people who had lived there and American soldiers who were there suffer from many diseases mostly cancers and early death and their children are born with multiple health disorders also many strains of cancers. Lives ruined.

I suppose God could have made people with sheep brains incapable of creating a nuclear bombs but then people of goodwill would also miss out on amazing life. To sort out the problem, a place has been created for both, one is called heaven the other hell.

Here is a better idea, make people with huge brains capable of figuring out the precise consequence of not getting along with each other so there is no need for bombs in the first place.

BN, but that would not be a lie reflective of reality.

It is easy to make an observation and say X, where X is God, is responsible for it, but quite impossible to propose something logically more simple and better, that doesn't exist, and ascribe God to it.

I think that's the point you are trying to make - it is just such a good point it should be driven home.

I wrote this:

It might well be that before He called for the judgement of the 70,000, HE arranged for only elect sinners that needed only a quick death to fulfill the curse on sin to be in place as the infants and mentally deficient children within that group...
And you think this perversion of my thoughts is a pertinent answer?
alexxcJRO wrote:So your real objection is that there was no sheep-elect(chose to be able to become holy in YHWH's sight in his previous life) among the 70, 000.
If you don't read what I write before you reply, my answers are a waste of time.
PCE Theology as I see it...

We had an existence with a free will in Sheol before the creation of the physical universe. Here we chose to be able to become holy or to be eternally evil in YHWH's sight. Then the physical universe was created and all sinners were sent to earth.

This theology debunks the need to base Christianity upon the blasphemy of creating us in Adam's sin.

Evil

Post by Danmark »

The question of 'evil' comes up frequently in this forum and particularly in threads like this one. What IS 'evil?'
I suggest the wanton destruction of every living thing on Earth is evil; as is the unnecessary infliction of physical and emotional pain. Torturing Abraham by demanding he kill his son is evil. These are all evil acts by any reasonable definition of the term. The so called 'god' referred to in the Bible has done evil things on a magnitude the so called 'Satan' hasn't even thought of.

  • To whom does planet earth belong?
Is destroying your own property evil?
Is taking back what is yours, given on condition, evil?
Has God ever destroy "every living thing on earth"?
Who decides what is "necessary" and unnessisary" pain?
Who decides if Abraham was tortured or tested? You?
Is there any evidence Abraham considered his God his "torturer"?
Who decides what is evil? You?
If so, doesn't that make you the very thing you deny exists?
