The kingdom of God.

Post by Checkpoint »

Some seem to think it is entirely future, while others give the impression they are always thinking of it as present, and to not be looking at the future in kingdom terms at all.

Jesus had much to say about the kingdom, including this:
Luke 16:

6 The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is being zealously urged into it.
So, where do you stand as to whether it is present, future, or has both a present and a future aspect?

On what basis?

According to which scriptures?

I think that he is right, Jesus was the symbolic PASSOVER lamb. Through his death the various covenants were instigated that paved the way for the KINGDOM to be established in 1914.

JW
What do you mean by saying "established in 1914"?

What "covenants were instigated that paved the way", and how did those instigations pave the way?
If you had read the info that JehovahsWitness linked for us, you would know the answer to your question. JW explained clearly how we know that 1914 was the year Christ renewed the Davidic Kingship to Jehovah's people, representing the true God Jehovah---the Sovereign of the universe.

By "established" I mean became operational, be set up in order to start functioning as an entity. Imagine a device such as a computer. You buy it, plug it in and when you push the "start button" it starts to function. God's messianic kingdom (His government with Jesus at its head) started to function/ started to operate (went into action) in 1914.
Why was the start button not pushed until 1914?

Was the kingdom not operational, not functioning, during the ministry of Jesus, and/or after the resurrection, and/or upon his enthronement?

They provided the needed protection and the legal basis by which the various aspects of the kingdom could emerge.

That you will have to ask God, such decisions remain in His hands and he has not chosen to reveal his reasons for choosing that particular year.
ACTS 6:6,7

So when they had assembled, they asked him: “Lord, are you restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time? He said to them: “It does not belong to you to know the times or seasons that the Father has placed in his own jurisdiction.

No.

NOTE: Jesus was enthroned (in the Messianic Kingdom) in 1914. So when Jesus was "enthroned" (began ruling as KING) in 1914, the kingdom was indeed operational.

I am sorry, but I am unable to discern how what you posted actually answered my question!

Perhaps you can clarify, or put it another way.

I'll try: all of the listed covenants ensured the various elements of the kingdom government came into existence and fitted together.

The kingdom Government has a KING (that's what a KING-dom is without a king there can be no kingdom). That king had to be born a descendent of Abraham (because of the Abrahamic covenant), and have the right to rule (in line with the Davidic covenant). Without the Abrahamic and the Davidic covenants the KING of the kingdom could not have the right to rule and there would be no legitimate kingdom.

In order for said king to be born to a nation, said nation had to exist and be in a spiritual condition from which that king could gather 144,000 co-rulers ... thus the Law covenant. Since that law did not allow for a king to also occupy the role of both king and PRIEST , his priestly office was was based on a direct appointment by God ( thus the Melchizedek covanent).

The KING had to be spirit anointed because a human does not naturally die and go to heaven. Since the KINGDOM was to be situated in HEAVEN there had to be a way for God to legally get the King of the kingdom (and his chosen co-rulers) to heaven ... thus the "New Covenant" which was the basis by which God adopts humans as his sons. Being adopted sons of God makes those spirit anointed men and women Christs "brothers" so Jesus (THE KING) shared his inheritance (the kingdom authority) with them ... thus the KINGDOM COVENANT.

All of the above are like steps, progressive developments, by which God advanced his purpose on a legal basis, overcoming apparent difficulties to create a government made up, not of angels but of individuals who were once humans on earth, without compromising his own word or standards.

Very nice explanation. Everything Jehovah does is above-board, purpose-driven and legal. The legality of things is important to Him, just like the legal issues in any court case are important to a judge and the lawyers, and they go by the book concerning what is legal and what's not. Jehovah says "this is the way it has to be," and that is the end of the argument. Why doesn't He have as much authority to state what is legal and why, as the human magistrates do?

More than just that, JW. Jesus there specifically says it is not for you to know dates or seasons. Period. That includes JWs who claim they did and do know, in this case, 1914.

No.

JW
NOTE: Jesus was enthroned when he sat at God's right hand as the Prince of Peace.
Acts 5:31

God exalted him to His own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins.
That's when the button was pushed, and since then, his kingdom has been oprational and functional.

I specifically mentioned the MESSIANIC kingdom (sitting at Gods right hand symbolises occupying a privileged position of favor).
