"....and all the world wondered after the beast." (Rev. 13:3)
The antichrist is supposed to fool everyone----except true Christians----into worshipping him.
How well would that work out? Would he be able to fool.....
Jews? Judaism holds that only God is to be worshipped and that God does not take any physical form. Worship of any human being is considered blasphemous idolatry, and any wonders the antichrist performed would be interpreted as the workings of a false teacher sent by God to test the Jewish people.
Muslims? Islam also teaches that God takes no physical form, so they too would instantly peg the antichrist as a phony.
Feminist Pagans would reject any god-claim which didn't acknowledge the Goddess.
Atheists would suspect any miracle of being either a trick or a coincidence. An "image of the beast" brought to life could be taken for an artificial intelligence project.
The god-claim of the antichrist being fundamentally incompatible with so many beliefs, who would be left for the antichrist to fool?
Who would the antichrist fool?

Re: Who would the antichrist fool?
Post #63Hello to everyone. Hope you are all well.
I have decided to pop in because I see there is a lot of rapture hysteria going on at the moment, due to the whole Russian invasion of Ukraine and COVID and am becoming irritated by the misinformation being spread by Christians.
Sorry, Ozzy, but you are talking about obsolete technology here. I work in the industry, in a company that is at the cutting edge of identification and security, does work for governments and has partnerships and alliances with many huge multi-national companies who are developing identity technology. None of the big companies are developing numbering systems where marks need to be put on skin or silicon chips are implanted under your skin. And if we are that close to the tribulation then it should be happening, but it isn't. Sweden is doing it but has been for years and it hasn't taken off anywhere else. But silicon chips under the skin aren't visible marks so don't line up with the bible prophecies.
The main push at the moment is on cellphones, high definition video systems and biometrics. Facial recognition will be widespread before too much longer.
I can understand if you don't want to take my word for it as you don't know me but I suggest you do a little online research and you will find out this numbering system is a thing of the past. It may have been a possibility 20 or 30 years ago, but not today. Biometric security is becoming more and more reliable and affordable. Spreading fast around the world. There is scarcely a need for marks or silicon chip implants into bodies when you can identity people by their hand prints or faces.
The anti-christ would be stupid to enforce such a system anyway. Why would he want to follow what the bible says? That will just expose him as evil and the son of Satan. He would have to be a complete buffoon to do things in the way the bible lays out.
As a former Christian, now an Atheist, I can quite safely say that I will NOT be worshipping some world/religious leader. Like the OP says, I would see him as a fraud. A trickster, trying to convince people he is a god. But this is the 21st century. Dictators are despised not worshipped. Especially not leaders who execute millions for not taking numbers. This anti-christ would be worse than Hitler!
One needs to look at the times when the so-called prophecies were written. Back then world leaders regularly declared themselves Gods and had everyone worshipping them as gods. So it's not surprising that when someone back then was making a prophecy, that they would believe that in the future a world leader would be seen as a god. But like I said, this is the 21st century. That's not going to work. World leaders are generally looked down upon by the majority, not worshipped. For every leader voted into power the majority of people voted against him/her. Maybe if this anti-christ had established himself 100 years ago he might have been worshipped. I don't know but certainly not now.
Likewise capital punishment is no longer accepted in modern society. Maybe 50 years ago, but not today and it certainly won't be happening by beheadings even if it did! Even the Nazis who were experimenting with the most efficient ways of executing people, the best they could do was firing squads and gas chambers. In this day and age it would be faster less messy methods. I would think lethal injections would be used.

ah, finally we get to the old numbering system.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.
Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.
There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

Re: Who would the antichrist fool?
Post #64This non argument question is a perfect example of Jose Fly's issue in viewtopic.php?f=17&t=39688&start=100 where he asks the question about why scientific consensus is rejected.
Ever since the Trump and Trumpism came on the scene we have seen the glorification, even idolatry of ignorance. Regardless of what the 'government' or the 'TV' reports, the scientific evidence is clear that the MRNA vaccines are very safe and effective. Yet because of a misplaced Christian Nationalism along with basic ignorance of science and scientific principles, a broad swath of science deniers have allied with a strain of 'Christianity' that proudly and ignorantly assumes science is wrong and anything the non Trump government says must be wrong.
I don't know there is any cure for this social disease. The victims, virtually all members of the Dunning-Kruger club, reject the very thing that could deliver them from ignorance - education.
How do we know who to trust about science and medical evaluations?
I suggest that a former President who won't allow his college transcripts to be seen and has suggested injecting household bleach into the blood stream, is not a reliable source for any information.
Rather, we should look to prestigious hospitals like Johns Hopkins and great universities like Harvard and McGill:
... we have a growing trove of data that show that these vaccines are indeed effective against catching the virus, transmitting it to other people, and ending up in the hospital because of it.

Post #67i have more science for you.....
Here’s the heartbreaking story of an Arkansas high school cheerleader who “died suddenly” from a pulmonary embolism a few days ago..... the incidence of kids dying from pulmonary embolism before the COVID shots was 1.4 in 1,000,000.

Safe and effective.....you decide for yourself with the brain and common sense God gave you
There is a reason so many atheists worship at the alter of 'science' despite science not complying with the scientific method
There is a reason facebook, twitter, instagram, YouTube, google and others censors scientific papers.....what could that reason be?

Post #69Ah, yes, all the great sources for knowledge, truth and unbiased and informed opinion. How did humanity make any progress without it? Oh, wait, there's Tik Tok.
George Orwell:: “The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.”
Voltaire: "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities."
Gender ideology is anti-science, anti truth.

Re: Who would the antichrist fool?
Post #70Ohhh, here we go. Yet another theist who claims that Atheists worship science. You must have a very flexible interpretation of the word "worship" then. What is your definition of worship?
But let's say that's true and Atheists worship science, how is that the same as worshipping a human being? We're talking about a human being declaring himself a god and doing magic tricks. Why would you think that ANYONE would worship such a person in this day and age, apart from uninformed claims made in the bible?
We are living in the 21st century now not the first century. Back in those days a world leader might have got away with declaring himself a god and forcing people to worship him. In this day and age we look down on world leaders.
Sorry, Ozzy, but this Atheist here, even if he did worship science, would not be willing to put the same confidence in some "Hitler" claiming to be a god and committing acts of genocide if you don't take his number. I refuse to worship any human being, especially not gynocidal monsters.
Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.
