Body, soul and spirit

Post by placebofactor »

The Bible tells us that we are made of three parts. We have a body of flesh made to live on earth, to think, eat, drink, sleep, and die. It's a fleshly body that covers our spiritual body and soul. The spiritual body and soul are made to honor and worship God. Now, that’s a mouthful and covers a great deal of ground. When we die, our bodies are returned to the ground.

Genesis 3:19, For out of it (the ground) were you taken, for dust you are, and unto dust shall you return.”

Question, “What happens to a man’s soul, and spirit?” Answer: The saved go to be with the Lord, for those who reject the saving grace of Jesus Christ, they will find themselves in a place called Hades.

The following occurred before Jesus was put to death, and before the church age began. Jesus is speaking to the Jews, the publicans, Pharisees, scribes, and sinners. He spoke of things the Jewish elite and the people believed and understood. The ancient Jews believed in the resurrection of the dead.

Now, Luke 16:22 concerns a beggar named Lazarus who was begging at the gate of an unidentified rich man. Verse 22, “It came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died and was buried.”

What does Luke mean by, “Carried off into Abraham’s bosom?” Matthew 8:11 tells us “Many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.” This may allude to Luke 22:29-30 when Jesus spoke to his disciples at the Last Supper. “I appoint unto you a kingdom as my Father hath appointed unto me; that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

As for the rich man, “He lifts up his eyes, being in torments, and sees Abraham afar off, with Lazarus in his bosom.” Because he is a Jew, he cries out, “Father Abraham have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue: for I am tormented in this flame.”

We know the man's body of flesh was buried in the ground, so what part of him remained that was able to see, hear, thirst, feel pain, and speak? The part of him that was in hell was his spirit and soul because of his pride, selfishness, and lack of compassion.

What’s going to happen to him? He will stand before the judgment seat of the LORD, but not until after the 1000-year reign of Christ ends. Revelation 20:5, “The rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished.” Verse 12, “And I (John) saw the dead, small and great, stand before God, and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of these things which were written in the books, according to their works. Verse 13, “An they were judged every man according to their works.” From there, they will suffer the second death in the lake of fire. It’s not physical death, it’s spiritual death.

What about Lazarus? 1 Thessalonians 4:16, “The Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:” His body will no longer hunger or be covered with sores. Neither will our sickness and disease be with us. No cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, poor eyesight, heart, lung, kidney or liver diseases. We will possess a perfect body, the body we were intended to have before the fall of Adam and Eve.

1 Corinthians 15:52, “In the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump, the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

The spirit is the active force or power from God that animates the body of a human or animal (rather like electricity that animates a computer or tv). A SOUL is just a bible word for a physical living person or animal.

When a person dies God "unplugs" them as it were because the computer is too old or too broken to fonction, The power contains no part of the humans personality or memory.

Wrong!

Only two body types are described in the Bible, natural and spiritual:

There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. (I Corinthians 15:44)

Natural bodies live in the natural terrestrial world, and spiritual bodies live in the spiritual or heavenly world:

There are also celestial (or heavenly) bodies, and bodies terrestrial (earthly) : but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. (I Corinthians 15:40)

Celestial means heavenly or spiritual and terrestrial means natural, earthly, or physical. There are only two body types, celestial and terrestrial, and they are different. The glory of the celestial is one and the glory of the terrestrial is another. In other words, they do not mix.

There is no hybrid being consisting of a spirit or soul living within a physical body described anywhere in the scriptures! Man is a terrestrial body, and angels are spiritual bodies.

<====================================>

The natural body comes first and it may be followed by a spiritual body:

Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. (I Corinthians 15:46)

The natural body comes first and the spiritual body comes last. All men are born as natural or physical flesh and blood bodies, and those who believe in Jesus will be born again as spiritual bodies when Jesus returns!

The two body types are different and are never merged together at anytime in the scriptures!

My response, "I believe you are misunderstanding what I mean. I agree with your above statement, but that's not what I'm talking about. Every individual is composed of a physical body, a spirit body and a soul.
1 Thessalonians 5:23, "I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." All three will be transformed into the image of the Son.

Our physical flesh and blood have been corrupted and destined to die. Our soul is the seat of the senses, desires, affections, appetites, and passions, and is common to all men. When you accept the teaching of the gospel, you receive the Holy Spirit who then communes with your soul (mind, thoughts). If the mind accepts his teachings, we will change our bad habits into good habits bringing us out of darkness into the Light.

The soul of man can best be described as his thoughts and concerns. Our spirit body was made in the image of the invisible God, who cares for all His creation, especially His own. He considers our situations, preserves our existence, gives us strength, and powers, governs our acts, and promotes our welfare. Therefore, we will then be like Christ in body, soul, and spirit.

Born: to come into existence as a result of a birth.

Mankind is born of the flesh as mortal flesh and blood humans.

Spiritual bodied beings are born of the Spirit (God) as immortal spiritual bodied beings.

So, for a human to gain everlasting life, he or she must be born a second time of the Spirit (God) as a spiritual bodied being; as that which is born of the Spirit is spirit and only spiritual bodied beings live forever.

Those who believe in Jesus will be born again of the Spirit into everlasting spiritual bodied life equal unto the angels:

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The spirit is the active force or power from God that animates the body of a human or animal (rather like electricity that animates a computer or tv). A SOUL is just a bible word for a physical living person or animal.

The word soul has many meanings. It depends on the context in which it rests. It can mean our breath, a vital principle, life. The following is a quote from English to Greek Lexicon, 1836. "A departed soul, ghost, shade, separate from the body. Also, the sentient principle as, the seat of the senses, desires, affection, appetites, and passions of men.

The word Spirit when used concerning the Holy Spirit is a noun, you're using it as a verb. If it were in lowercase, you can get away with it. Jesus said, John 15:26, "The Comforter which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, HE shall teach ---." John 16:13, "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth is come, He will ----." He is a noun, masculine singular. The N.W.T. changed Spirit into lowercase spirit in both verses. Sorry, the nouns He, and Spirit refer to the third person of the Trinity.

Give me your verses concerning unplugged, and that living men are like a computer, a dead thing even when plugged in has no personality or breath of life. All it is, is a bunch of metal and plastic parts without life, without a Savior and Redeemer.

There is no verse that says the word "unplugged" or "computer" it was an illustration. An illustration is a picture (in this case a "word picture") to teach a point. The point being that a living soul is basically a physical body animated or made alive by God's active force or spirit (without which the person would die).

IF GOD WITHDRAWS HIS SPIRIT WOULD A HUMAN OR ANIMAL DIE?
PSLAM 104:29
When you hide your face, they are disturbed. If you take away their spirit, they die and return to the dust.
JOB 34:14,15
If he gathers their spirit and breath to himself, 15 All humans would perish together

No, there are natural bodies and spiritual bodies, and they do not mix.

All natural physical bodies have the characteristics of a natural body -- including death.

All spiritual bodied beings are born of the Spirit as spirits, and have the characteristics of a spiritual body, one of which is everlasting life.

I suspect that you were born of a flesh and blood woman, not a spirit.

If so, then you have a natural physical body as your mother.

You may have a spiritual body in the future, but not now according to the scriptures.

According to the scriptures, your natural body comes first and may be followed by a spiritual body.

In regards to Christians, Paul writes:

Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. (1 Corinthians 15:46)
