The Greek word for hate is, "miseo." This word expresses less than abhor, detest, and abominate. This form of hatred is in opposition and is contrary to nature.
John 15:18, Jesus said, "If the world hates you, (Christians) ye know that it hated me (Jesus) before it hated you."
John 15:23, Jesus said, "He that hates me hates my Father also."
Matthew 10:22, Jesus said, "And ye (Christian’s) shall be hated of all men for my name's sake."
This hatred is not a temporary bitterness or mindset with motives to do personal injury, but a complete universal hatred for Jesus and His Church. No amount of discretion on the part of Christians, consistent with total loyalty to the Scripture, will help to stifle that hatred. It may soften its violence, or in some cases avert the outward manifestation of it.
This hatred usually implies an active ill will, in both words and conduct, plus a persecuting spirit. This hatred was present at the time of our Lord but has remained to this day.
Matthew 5:44, Jesus is speaking, "But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;"
Question: What is it the world hates about Jesus and those of us who follow him?
Why does the world hate Jesus?

Why does the world hate Jesus? It’s a powerful and deeply meaningful question—one that’s been asked for centuries. The tension between Jesus and “the world” is something He spoke about. In the Gospel of John, Jesus said, John 7:7, “The world cannot hate you; but me it hates, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil." A bold statement, and it gets to the heart of the issue.
Jesus challenged the status quo—religiously, socially, and morally. He called out hypocrisy, exposed injustice, and preached a radical message of love, grace, and truth. That kind of light can feel threatening in a world that often prefers darkness, comfort, or control. His teachings weren’t just comforting; they were confrontational in the best sense—inviting people to change, to repent, to live differently.
Historically, the Jewish religious leaders saw Him as a threat to their authority, and political powers feared He might incite unrest. Today, people still resist His message because it calls for humility, surrender, and transformation—things that can be uncomfortable or even offensive in a culture that prizes self-sufficiency and personal freedom.
But there is another side to this story: even though Jesus was hated, He responded with love. He forgave His enemies, healed the broken, and offered hope to the outcast. That’s what makes this story so compelling—and why it continues to stir hearts and spark debates like this.

Re: Why does the world hate Jesus?
Post #5So many are quoting jesus when he says he testifies to the evil in the world
C'mon people....think .., who has been given that job? Who testifies to the evil in the world? Think ..the one people say they hate. Though they have no reason to hate him as he does not sin. He does get others to disobey God. In the end he rats you out.
Any guesses?
Who was the one who promised life eternal even if you disobeyed God? Who got Eve to disobey God?
She died. The serpent lied. The serpent didn't die. It still lives.
Any entity promising eternal life? Any entity say you don't have to keep the law? It's the oldest trick in the book

Post #7Where and how do you think this hatred is manifest? Do you think you're persecuted for being a Christian?placebofactor wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 4:19 pmQuestion: What is it the world hates about Jesus and those of us who follow him?
It looks to me like Christianity sits in a privileged seat, at least in the United States. A simple example is that a number of states' laws include language that allow religious exceptions for behavior that would otherwise be considered medical neglect. If you think instead that Christianity is actually persecuted, how should we draw that conclusion?

Post #8It would seem to be if you have your head in the sand. I have never been persecuted personally for being a Christian, but I did serve 7 years in the Marines to protect that right, as have millions of other military personnel. Christianity is not free; it has to be worked for and protected, either by laws or might. Also, one bit of information concerning your question, who is considered a follower of Jesus Christ = a Christian? Many call themselves Christians here in America.Difflugia wrote: ↑Tue Jun 24, 2025 4:16 pmWhere and how do you think this hatred is manifest? Catholics do, yet they pray to the dead, light candles, say rosaries, and pray to Mary and a host of other dead saints. They claim the Pope has replaced Jesus until he returns. They have also added their Catholicism rules and dogmas to the Scriptures, and over the centuries, have killed tens of thousands of Christians who dared disagree with their teachings.
Then there are the Mormons who claim the Father had intercourse with (angelic women) had spiritual children, and Walla! here you and I stand, sons and daughters of Jehovah. They have also added the teaching of the Book of Mormon to the Scriptures.
Jehovah's Witnesses deny the Holy Spirit as the third person of the Godhead and deny the Divinity of their Savior, Jesus Christ. To qualify their teaching, they had to rewrite the Bible and added about 140 rules that govern each member's life, thus putting themselves back under the law.
Then there's the Church of Christ that denies the rapture of the saints.
The Seventh Day Adventists are a strictly law-governed organization.
There are homosexual churches that call themselves Christians. There are the Amish, Scientologists, and on and on it goes.
And if you haven't noticed, over the past 60 years, many laws have been passed against teaching American children the Bible in public schools, the removal of Bibles from schools, and the removal of the 10 commandments from public buildings and federal lands. Christians are being forced in schools and by government elected officials (pagans) to accept the Lesbian, gays BULL. This puts doubt in the minds of our youth concerning Biblical teachings. They are also being forced fed the theory of evolution.
Last week alone, two Christian churches were attacked by gunmen, and there has been an upsurge in violence against the Jewish community in their synagogues and colleges around the country. Never forget, we Gentiles have been adopted into the blessing the Lord has promised the people of Israel. We Gentiles are the "Wild branches) grafted into the natural branches (the Jews.) We are to pray for the peace of Israel, a reminder to my Jehovah's Witness friends. Israel is a chosen vessel unto the LORD to this day.
That's my story, what's yours?

If this is even true, this sounds at worst like removing some of the undue privilege that Christianity has been afforded. Hate! I don't hate anyone, never have. I'm answering your questions. The only thing I try to project is what the Scriptures teach, nothing else.

It appears you have no knowledge who built this country. Christianity has earned whatever privilages you think they may have, but Mister, they were not free. Christians are responsible for every child getting an education in America, they are responsible for hospitals so every American can have care, etc. etc.

No one is forced to own a gun, but if you break into my house, you will get shot, not killed, but seriously changed. It's called self-defense. Even you should be wise enough to know, people in their 80s cannot defend themselves physically, so I would say a gun is a necessary weapon.
How is that persecution of Christians?placebofactor wrote: ↑Wed Jun 25, 2025 10:25 amand there has been an upsurge in violence against the Jewish community in their synagogues and colleges around the country.
Christians are adopted into the blessing of the Jews. We Christians are one with them. The God I worship said, "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem." Meaning: Pray for the Jews. Islam is the problem, not Israel.
