How did Jesus become God?

Post by Elijah John »

Bart Ehrman has an excellent book entitled "How Jesus became God".

Without turning this into a book debate per se, let's turn the title into a question for debate.

How did Jesus become God? What do you think? What is your understanding of the process, or was Jesus always God? Evidence?

I realize there are a few assumptions in the debate question, but for argument's sake, let's go with it.
My theological positions:

-God created us in His image, not the other way around.
-The Bible is redeemed by it's good parts.
-Pure monotheism, simple repentance.
-YHVH is LORD
-The real Jesus is not God, the real YHVH is not a monster.
-Eternal life is a gift from the Living God.
-Keep the Commandments, keep your salvation.
-I have accepted YHVH as my Heavenly Father, LORD and Savior.

I am inspired by Jesus to worship none but YHVH, and to serve only Him.

What? Please say something that contributes to the conversation. I'm pretty sure we can all handle it.

So your contribution is to simply ask a question and offer no substantive position of your own? I was anxiously awaiting a mind-blowing point of view on the OP based on the expectation that you set. :)

To your question, the Word of God is that which calls us from the very beginning to create the conditions for life and to help life of every kind flourish and fulfill its potential. It's in the "let there be's..." of Genesis 1. It's in the original mandate for humankind to fill the earth through its rule and to care for the garden. It's in the teachings and actions of Jesus pointing us to love and care for our neighbor. It's in the hard decisions to uproot and cleanse the world of evil.

It's something that needs to be actively discerned throughout our lives, and that when we live according to makes us part of the union that is God. Just like Jesus.

You continue to say nothing at all. Can you please offer something of substance?

Pretty sure I have answered all your questions and provided a position on the OP. So how do YOU think Jesus became God? Or what do YOU think the Word of God is?

A one liner, content-less response will only go to show that you have no real thought on the matter. So either answer the questions and engage in meaningful dialogue or else what is your purpose here?
